"Ikigai" is a Japanese concepts meaning "a reason for being," and finding joy in life through purpose.
“Iki” (生き) translates to “life,” and “gai” (甲斐) translates to value or worth.
Our "ikigai" is what gets us up every morning and keeps us going.
Ask yourself:
(A) Are you doing something that you love doing? (B) Are you doing something the world needs? (C) Are you doing something that you are good at? (D) Are you doing something that you can get paid for?
If it's something (A) that you love + (B) that the world needs + (C) that you are good at, there is delight and fullness, but no wealth.
If it's something (B) that the world needs + (C) that you are good at + (D) that you can be paid for, you are comfortable, but are left with a feeling of emptiness.
If it's something (A) that you love + (C) that you are good at + (D) that you can be paid for, there is satisfaction, but a feeling of uselessness.
If it's something (A) that you love + (B) that the world needs + (D) that you can be paid for, there is excitement and complacency, but a sense of uncertainty.
What we all want to aim for is the middle, where it is something (A) that you love + (B) that the world needs + (C) that you are good + (D) that you can be paid for
Please take into consideration this concept when contemplating your purpose or goals in life, or are thinking of making a change in your professional life.
